Three women arrested in London under anti-terror laws

Three women were today arrested under anti-terror laws in east London, police said, in connection with investigationsinto a plot that was thwarted last week.

The Metropolitan Police said it arrested two 18-year-olds and a 19-year-old on suspicion of the commission, preparation and instigation of terrorist acts.

'The arrests were made as part of an ongoing intelligence-led operation in connection with an address on Harlesden Road,' the police said in a statement, referring to a location where a woman was shot on Friday during an armed raid which police said disrupted a militant plot.

Police said last week that they had foiled an active terror plot after a woman was shot during a raid on a house in Willesden, north-west London.

The 21-year-old woman was one of the subjects of the investigation, and is in a serious but stable condition.

Another raid also took place last week in Kent, with six people arrested in total.

Officers said that the operation was not connected to an arrest near Parliament on Thursday, when a man was detained on suspicion of terror offences.

The house in Harlesden Road, which was raided on Thursday evening, had been under observation by police.

Those arrested included a 16-year-old boy, a man and woman, both aged 20 and another man and woman both aged 28.

In Kent, a 43-year-old woman was also arrested last week.

The woman who was shot is under police guard in hospital and had not been arrested 'due to her condition,' police said in a statement.
