'Thor: Ragnarok' cast rumor: Cate Blanchett to play Hela?

According to a report from Geek.com, Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett is set to play Hela, the main villain for "Thor: Ragnarok." According to the report, Hela will be portrayed as she is seen in the comics: the daughter of Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and ruler of Hel and Niflheim, realms of the dead.

Fans who saw "Avengers: Age of Ultron" will recall that Thor (Chris Hemsworth) received a vision while confronting Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and it was in this vision that he saw himself in the realm of the dead. This is reportedly a possible clue on the events that will unfold in "Thor: Ragnarok," which is rumored to involve the Norse apocalypse.

According to the report, Hela will be working hand in hand with her father Loki, who has now taken the disguise of Odin (Anthony Hopkins) and is secretly ruling Asgard while Odin's true fate is yet to be revealed. The report also points out that Hela and Loki have already set their plan in motion by the time Thor figures out what is happening.

Even more interesting is what is said to happen when Thor tries to confront the Goddess of the Dead. When he tries to fight Hela she will reportedly defeat him and even destroy his magical weapon, the hammer Mjolnir. She will then banish Thor from Asgard, presumably as the apocalypse begins and the Asgardians are confronted with death and war.

The report also states that there is a possibility that Hela may become the primary love interest or at least a partner for the Mad Titan Thanos (Josh Brolin). Thanos is set to appear in "Thor: Ragnarok" and it is speculated that he will take Hela along with the Infinity Stones as he begins his war against the Avengers.

"Thor: Ragnarok" will open in theaters on Nov. 3, 2017.
