'Thor 3' plot spoilers: Lady Sif to have bigger, pivotal role

Jamie Alexander as Lady Sif Marvel Studios

Jamie Alexander's Lady Sif has always played a strong supporting role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, first popping up as one of Thor's (Chris Hemsworth) companions in "Thor" and eventually making appearances in "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." According to a recent interview with the actress, Sif is finally moving up to get the spotlight in "Thor: Ragnarok."

"Marvel, I think on purpose, they don't tell me certain things," Alexander told the Los Angeles Times when asked if Lady Sif's background would be explored. "Because they know I'll be like, 'So here's what's gonna happen.' But I do know I will be in 'Thor 3' and that Sif will have a very pivotal part in that movie. I just can't tell you what because I'll get shot."

Alexander also explained that there are hints sprinkled in the different MCU properties such as "Avengers: Age of Ultron," "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," and "Captain America: Civil War." Some fans are even speculating that Lady Sif will die in the third "Thor" film, igniting Thor's rage to lead the battle in the film's climax.

As pointed out in a report by Cinema Blend, most of the press have been building up around "Captain America: Civil War" which is set to divide the world of superheroes while also introducing a new Spider-Man (Tom Holland) and many new characters to the fold such as Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman). But in the bigger picture of the MCU, it is "Thor: Ragnarok" along with "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. II" that may eventually link events up to "Avengers: Infinity War" parts 1 and 2.

After all, "Avengers: Age of Ultron" ended with Thor heading to Asgard to learn more about the Infinity Stones and it is rumored that "Thor: Ragnarok" may even feature Thanos (Josh Brolin) as one of the primary villains. What Lady Sif's role is in this final chapter to MCU Phase 3 has yet to be seen.

"Thor: Ragnarok" opens in theaters on Nov. 3, 2017.
