'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt': 'Blood and Wine' DLC will be 'even better than the main game'

Developer CD Projekt RED is positive that fans will surely love the upcoming "Blood and Wine" DLC for "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt." In fact, the game studio believes that the sizable expansion pack will be "even better than the main game."

"Blood and Wine" is a king-size DLC and CD Projekt RED says it is almost like an "independent," standalone game in itself. The expansion pack offers 20 hours of unadulterated gameplay experience featuring a narrative distinct from the game's main plot.

The DLC was built as a response to the feedback from players the game studio received. The Poland-based developer is confident that "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" players will feel fulfilled and pleased with this extra-large DLC.

"We believe that they failed in 'Wild Hunt' to create a charismatic enemy with which to beat us, and then we worked to make unique and memorable opponent of this expansion," story writer Jakub Szamalek told Eurogamer.

"We also created a rather complex story that we believe players will appreciate," he added. The enormity of "Blood and Wine" is also CD Projekt RED's way to conclude Geralt's tale on a high note. Knowing that it will be the monster hunter's final adventure, the developer went all out.

"'Blood and Wine' will try to close The Witcher universe, at least for a time. It will be the last adventure of Geralt as a main character. But beyond that there is still nothing written in stone," Szamalek explained.

When "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" DLC is complete, Szamalek and his team will start "to focus with all the energy of Cyberpunk 2077," referring to the upcoming action role-playing video game CD Projekt RED is also working on.

Blood and Wine will be released sometime this year. It will be included in the game's expansion pass priced at $24.99.
