'The Voice' season 9 Battles results update: Fan favorites leave early

The dreaded Battle rounds of "The Voice" has just began for season 9, but hearts already broke when fan-favorite contestants were sent home during the early part of the competition.

During Tuesday night's episode, coaches Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani, and Pharell Williams were left with the difficult task of choosing who among the members of their teams will move forward in the competition and who will go based on the one-on-one challenge called "The Battles." But before they make the choice, they have to match up two contestants from their team first to know who will stay and who should go.

The first painful decision was made by Levine, who pitted Manny Cabo and Keith Semple in a battle round to sing "Baba O'Reily" by The Who. In the end, Levine opted to choose Semple's "memorable voice," but fans are unhappy to see the four-chair turner Cabo go.

Another unexpected cut came from Shelton's team, when the country music superstar pitted Chris Crump against Krista Hughes. The two sang the Dolly Parton hit single "When I Get Where I'm Going." Krump had to pack her bags since no other coach chose to steal her when Shelton decided to go for Crump.

During this week's run, only Regina Love from Team Adam, Tim Atlas from Team Gwen, and Dustin Christensen from Team Blake were rescued by the Steal option by other coaches during Monday's Battle rounds, while Ivone Acero from Team Pharell was the only one saved last Tuesday. It means that only four contestants in the coming weeks' Battles will get the chance to go on in the competition even if their coaches do not pick them since each coach only has one steal left this season.

Expect to see more grueling moments in next week's two-part episode of "The Voice" season 9 on NBC.
