'The Vampire Diaries' season 6 spoilers: Top 3 things to expect on premiere date set for October 2

The sixth season of "The Vampire Diaries" will premiere on October 2.

First it was Steve McQueen who told fans to be excited after he read the first two scripts. Now, Ian Somerhalder, playing the role of Damon, tweeted and confirmed the premiere date of the next season of "The Vampire Diaries".

"So...Umm, you might want to Mark those calendars! #TVD season SIX premieres Thursday, October 2! #CWfallpremieres #TVDS6 Whoa, that was fast!" the actor posted in his account that made all of the waiting fans squeal with delight.

Below are the top three things that fans should anticipate when the series return for season 6 in October.

1. Stefan and Caroline will be closer next season. Paul Wesley, who plays the role of Stefan, said that something romantic will happen to the pair. Moreover, writers worked hard in building up the relationship of the two, making it not impossible that the two will be romantically linked.

However, the possibility of a love triangle between Stefan, Caroline and Elena was not dismissed. "Elena loved Stefan. Elena's her best friend. Kind of a no-fly zone, which is why I think that if she has had any more-than-friend feelings she's pushed them away or convinced herself otherwise," said executive producer Caroline Dries.

2. No one knows what happened to Damon after the Project Kaboom, but it left the impression that Damon was dead or exited the series. However, there were speculations that Damon will return to Mystic Fall not as a vampire, but as a plain human. During the vampirism cure storyline, it was predicted that Damon would be the one to take the cure, but the writers decided against it. This could be an opportunity to explore such a plot.

3. The season 6 of "The Vampire Diaries" will include a time jump between the finale of season five and the premiere of season six. However, it is still unknown where the characters will be after the time jump.
