After Damon and Bonnie resolved the problem of The Other Side and allegedly died in the process, the series will have to introduce a new villain to stir things up next season.
Executive producer Julie Plec spilled a new batch of "The Vampire Diaries" spoilers hinting that a new villain will join the show. At the E! Online spoiler chat session, she revealed that the new antagonist will not surprise us. Instead, the introduction of the new villain will be slow.
"It's a long, slow-burn mythology that will unfold over the course of the entire season and will really impact each of our characters in deep ways and it's smart and it's interesting and it's small, which I like. Instead of trying to top ourselves year to year, we try to scale back and see if we can keep it really personal and rooted in character," she teased the waiting fans.
The identity of the new villain was not revealed. However, speculations arose that the new villain is already part of the current cast and will just emerge as a bad person.
Meanwhile, "The Vampire Diaries" season 6 will feature new couples. There will be a lot of changes in terms of pairings. According to previous spoilers, Damon & Bonnie may develop a romance next season, hinting that they may still appear somehow next season. The closeness of Damon and Bonnie was seen at the recent San Diego Comic Con. Stefan and Caroline are also expected to have some sort of romance next season. However, Paul Wesley denied the rumors and said that his love life next season will be zero.
Elena will also be a love interest for Alaric, although not immediately. It is believed that Elena will grieve the loss of her lover first. The panel at the recent San Diego Comic Con, especially the executive producer, confirmed that Elena and Stefan will not rekindle their old flame. Stefan will not be involved in a relationship as he, too, is grieving for the loss of his brother. Thus, it seemed that Elena will be alone for a while.
"The Vampire Diaries" season 6 will return on air on October 2, 7PM on The CW Network.
