The group at the Mystic Falls lost Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Bonnie (Kat Graham) in the season 5 finale of "The Vampire Diaries" when the two were trapped on the Other Side. Everything else that followed was a whirlwind of life-changing events requiring the rest of the characters, along with the fans and viewers, to forget and move on.
The premiere episode that jumpstarted the new season dates four months after the loss. Elena's (Nina Dobrev) take on the process of moving forward from the horrific event was to go back to Whitmore University to pursue her pre-med degree, albeit with a heavy heart. Still mourning the death of her vampire lover, Elena's feelings and thoughts were so extreme that she made use of a witch herb to help her summon hallucinations of her lost love.
By the end of the premiere episode, Elena sought help from Alaric (Matt Davis) to take away every ounce of her love connection with Damon.
As for the rest of the gang, Caroline (Candice Accola), who is deeply affected by the tragedy, quits school to focus on reversing the spell cast by the Travelers in the falls, with undying hopes to save the two. Stefan (Paul Wesley), who vowed to do the same thing, turns out to be a car mechanic busy hooking up with a girl, while Matt (Zach Roerig) is quick to move on by training himself to prevent such event from happening again. Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) transforms into a drunkard who plays video games and hits on chicks, while Tyler (Michael Trevino) works hard to avoid turning into an angry, hairy version of himself again.
In the next episode entitled "Yellow Ledbetter," viewers will know Alaric's answers to Elena's appeal. Enzo (Michael Malarkey), on the other hand, will decide to expose to Caroline what Stefan was really up to. While the second episode hints on Damon and Bonnie's real situation and whereabouts, TV Line also wants fans to gear up for a steamy kiss that will be shared by Stefan and Elena in the third episode.
The second episode of TVD Season 6 will air on Oct. 9.
