'The Sims 4' PS4, Xbox One release date: Console ports may never happen

 EA/Maxis

The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) happened in June and there were no mentions of a console port of "The Sims 4," which was initially released on the PC back in September 2014. According to a report from Game N Guide, this is an indication that a console port may never be released at all.

It is pointed out that the console ports of "The Sims 2" came out in 13 months after the PC version was released. "The Sims 3" took a little longer and the game came on PS3 and Xbox 360 after 16 months from the PC launch. As of the time of writing it has now been a year and a half since the PC release of "The Sims 4" with no console port in sight.

As pointed out by a report from the iDigital Times, it is possible that the console port is merely being delayed due to console issues such as optimization priorities or keeping the framerate consistent, porting difficulties that other PC games have gone through when being re-designed for a console release.

However, with no trailer or even a barebone sign of promotion during and after this year's, E3 it is likely that EA and Maxis are quietly not pushing through with a console port. Instead, fans may need to wait for "The Sims 5" to finally get a console port of the latest game in the franchise.

With Microsoft pushing forward with Xbox Play Anywhere later this year, it is possible that "The Sims 5" will launch simultaneously for both consoles and PC, with the ability to save files from one platform to the other. It may even be possible to have cross-platform play, although there are no confirmations of this as of the time being.

Microsoft and EA Maxis have yet to confirm if "The Sims 5" is even in development or if "The Sims 4" may yet see a console port before the end of the year.
