'The Last Ship' season 3 spoilers: Dr Rachel Scott is dead; action moves to Asia

 TNT

"The Last Ship" season 2 ended with a sudden cliffhanger when Dr. Rachel Scott (Rhona Mitra) was shot by an unidentified enemy. According to a report from TV Ruckus, it now appears that the scientist is indeed dead as a new promo for season 3 continues to mention Scott in the past tense.

According to the report, there is a scene in the upcoming third season where Chandler (Eric Dane) is shown reporting to the U.S. President Jeffrey Michener (Mark Moses) and the two discuss different means of honoring Scott, who was responsible for developing the cure to the virus that nearly wiped out humanity.

It is further explained that the general idea is to feature Scott on the cover of a new federal rations book but they all agree that this is not nearly enough given how much Scott had contributed to the future of mankind.

However, this cure will not have reached everyone across the world as the newest promo trailer for "The Last Ship" season 3 reveals that not everyone in Asia, particularly in China, had received the cure. It is further indicated that the President of China may have allowed the virus to further mutate, ensuring that the cure from Dr. Scott would be useless in the area.

When crew members of the Nathan James investigates, the trailer reveals that several will be captured and be held hostage. It is unclear if the people holding them are rebels of some sort or are a unique faction secretly being controlled and commanded by the Chinese President.

According to a report from Cartermatt, Slattery (Adam Baldwin) will discover an uneasy truth and this may be in relation to the mutation of the virus, how the Chinese government mishandled the cure, or a revelation that the Chinese President may have had a hand in the assassination on Dr. Scott.

"The Last Ship" season 3 premieres this June 12.
