The Handmaid's Tale season 2 finale ends on a dark note for June and Serena

If your nerves can take it, the finale to The Handmaid's Tale season 2 airs this Wednesday on Hulu and it looks like only pain and misery awaits June and Serena.

The promo for episode 13 is dark indeed as Waterford growls at June: "You are the misery of all men."

The tone of the promo suggests the ending will not bring anything good for the handmaids as in another clip Serena is seen trying to tell something to Fred but then it dramatically cuts to another scene in which she is being dragged away screaming.

She tells him that whatever she did was to "set an example for our daughter." But it seems like Fred might not agree with her good intentions as he takes off his wedding ring in another scene and says in an ominous tone "so you have."

The promo doesn't reveal why Serena is dragged away but it could be that she has been assisting the Mayday resistance movement.

Aunt Lydia tells a handmaid: "I hope you appreciate the opportunity you've been given in this house."

But nothing could be further from the truth as the handmaids have endured nothing but suffering.

Emily seems like she will have as bad a time as the others in the finale as her new commander stands creepily behind her and says "What are we going to do with you?"

Given what's gone before, we fear the worst.

The official synopsis for episode 13, called The Word, states: "Serena (played by Yvonne Strahovski) and the other Wives strive to make change; Emily (Alexis Bledel) learns more about her new Commander (Bradley Whitford); Offred (Elisabeth Moss) faces a difficult decision."

Watch the promo below and see what you think it could all mean:
