'The Fosters' season 2 Christmas Special: The holidays are filled with past love and reminiscing

It's Christmas at "The Fosters" and what will the ABC Family do during the holidays? It will go back to a short-lived romance between a supposed couple. Could this reminiscence bring them any closer in the future?

According to TV Line, the Christmas special is about the short relationship Callie and Brandon had in the past. It all starts with a flashback to the first Christmas that Callie and Jude spent with The Fosters. Maia Mitchell says that the special will give "more of an understanding of [Callie's] relationship with [Foster friend] Daphne and Brandon."

The Christmas episode also shows some scenes from seasons 1 and 2, but the main focus of it all is Callie and Brandon's kiss at the end of the finale. The surprising kiss clearly shows that the two have feelings for each other. Mitchell added that even if Callie and Brandon do not fight or pursue their feelings for each other, "they're always going to be important to each other."

"Whether they're dating, whether that's a romantic connection or just a mutual respect, they're always going to have that," Mitchell said.

But Callie's love problems don't end there. She also has to deal with her on-and-off boyfriend Wyatt.

According to co-creator of the family drama Peter Paige, "Wyatt will always be a part of the 'Fosters' universe."

So who will Callie choose then? She still has feelings for Brandon and there could be what-ifs if she doesn't pursue her feelings for him. But then there's Wyatt, someone who is good for her. Mitchell described Wyatt as "a really positive male figure in her life... he's someone she can trust and she hasn't really had that before."

It looks like Callie will have a tough decision to make. Will she choose a past romantic connection, or go for a romantic future with Wyatt? In any case, Wyatt will definitely not like Brandon as he can see that Callie isn't completely over him.

Paige also shared more details about the special. He said that every character will feature their own story, a small piece of the puzzle that will push season 2B forward. And of course, there's the return of Annie Potts.

"The Fosters" Christmas Special will air on Dec. 8 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
