'The Flash' season 3 spoilers: Gorilla Grodd and Gorilla City confirmed

"The Flash" season 3 is going to go deeper into the comic book roots of the show with its adaptation of the Flashpoint storyline. One other comic book aspect that is going to be featured in season 3 is Gorilla City and with it the eventual return of the villain Gorilla Grodd.

Speaking to Collider, producer Andrew Kreisberg explained during the recent Television Critics Association press tour that Gorilla Grodd would indeed be back but this time he won't be heading to Central City. Instead, the main characters will be heading to Gorilla City where they will be encountering him one more time.

"We're going to be doing a two-part episode that takes place in Gorilla City," Kreisberg explained in the report.

Screen Rant reports that there are major differences between Gorilla Grodd's origins in the series and in the comic books. In the show Grodd was a military experiment that later gain intelligence and psychic powers but in the comic books he and other gorillas from Gorilla City gained their intelligence from a crashed alien ship.

It is further stated that in the comics Gorilla Grodd killed the king of Gorilla City and took the throne for himself. "The Flash" season 2 saw the main heroes send Grodd to Gorilla City, which was located in Earth-2, and it is possible that the storyline of him taking over as the new king could be adapted on the show.

Collider did point out that back in January Kreisberg teased that Gorilla City was similar to Ra's al Ghul's (Matthew Nable) reveal in "Arrow," stating how Ra's was first teased but not by name in "Arrow" season 1, his daughter was introduced in season 2 and then the villain himself was present throughout season 3.

"The Flash" season 3 will premiere on the CW on Oct. 4 and will be followed by "Arrow" season 5, "Supergirl" season 2 and "Legends of Tomorrow" season 2.
