'The Flash' season 2 episode 17 spoilers: Eddie Thawne set to return

The Flash - Eddie Thawne The CW

Eddie Thawne (Rick Cosnett) died during the season 1 finale of "The Flash" but the character is making a return in season 2 episode 17. According to a report from TV Line, Eddie won't be revived and it won't be an Eddie from a different Earth but is the same one that fans had grown attached to in season 1.

According to the report, Barry Allen aka The Flash (Grant Gustin) will be more determined than ever to defeat Zoom now that he learns Zoom is in fact a version of Jay Garrick (Teddy Sears). In order to get more powerful, Barry will travel through time back to the events of season 1, a time when Eddie was alive.

During this time period, Barry will ask for assistance from Eobard Thawne, who at this time was posing as Dr. Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh). By doing so, Barry will potentially get faster and learn newer abilitites that will allow him to defeat Zoom on Earth-2.

Unfortunately, Eddie and Earth-1 Wells won't be the only familiar faces. According to the report, Hartley Rathaway aka the Pied Piper (Andy Mientus) will be making an appearance as well, causing trouble for the group at STAR Labs and may also make it harder for Barry to return to his original time period in the future.

Eddie is only set to return for this one episode, although the CW has yet to confirm or deny if a future appearance is still in the cards. With Barry Allen returning to Earth-2 soon to fight Zoom, it is also likely that he will encounter the Earth-2 version of Eddie Thawne.

Eddie's death in season 1 was the key solution in defeating Eobard aka Reverse-Flash but it also opened the gateway to Earth-2, causing the events that Team Flash is currently facing in season 2.

"The Flash" season 2 episode 17 will air this March 29.
