'The Elder Scrolls 6' release date could be in 2019

"The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim," the current title in the franchise Bethesda Softworks

It has been five years since the launch of "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" and to this date there is no official word yet on "The Elder Scrolls VI." However, Bethesda's Vice President of Marketing Pete Hines did mention during Gamescom 2015 (via Dual Shockers) that it will be a long time before any official announcements are made.

According to the report, the development team already has their hands busy with "Fallout 4" and "The Elder Scrolls Online." Both titles will still see patches, updates and numerous DLC packs in order to extend their shelf-life a little longer.

Hines reportedly stated that there is no plan to split the development team and that everyone involved is busy with the current projects onhand. This means there is no small team of people working solely on "The Elder Scrolls VI" at the time being.

The report points out that the development team working for Bethesda is still roughly the same size as the team that worked on "Skyrim," which limits their capabilities of splitting into smaller teams to work on numerous games simultaneously. It is for this reason that the team works on one game at a time.

It is important to note that "The Elder Scrolls Online" is not developed in-house by Bethesda but is instead the work of ZeniMax Studios.

Development on the next title may occur sometime soon, however, as fans speculate that new content for "Fallout 4" will stop by the end of this year or at least by early 2017. If this proves true, then development on "The Elder Scrolls VI" may begin by 2017, leading to a 2019 or 2020 release.

With no official word on "The Elder Scrolls VI," it is possible that the game could be a direct follow-up to "Skyrim" or it may be set elsewhere such as in "Argonia" or "Valenwood," both of which are popular candidates for the next title in the franchise.
