'Big Bang Theory' season 9 spoilers: Amy and Sheldon's big night and 'Star Wars' premiere in episode 11

 CBS

"The Big Bang Theory" season 9 episode 11 will serve as the winter finale and will have several big moments in store for the audience. As seen in the promotional trailer, this will be the episode Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and his girlfriend Amy (Mayim Bialik) get together for a sexual evening.

Episode 11's title, "The Opening Night Excitation," is a playful reference to both the anticipation the group has toward the release of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and to Sheldon and Amy's intimate night together.

The trailer reveals Sheldon informing his friends about the planned evening, an announcement that causes Penny (Kaley Cuoco) to break her glass. The trailer also ends with Sheldon gushing over his excitement, although it is unclear if he is referring to his date with Amy or for the premiere night of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

Returning in this episode is guest star Bob Newhart as Arthur Jeffries aka Professor Proton. Given that his character already passed away, he will be returning as a "Force ghost" in Sheldon's dreams. His appearance might be the deciding factor that will lead Sheldon to forego watching "Star Wars" and have an intimate night with Amy instead.

According to the official synopsis from Cartermatt, Leonard (Johnny Galecki), Howard (Simon Helberg) and Raj (Kunal Nayyar) have to decide whom else they will bring to the premiere of "Star Wars" now that they have one extra ticket.

Given that none of their girlfriends are into geek culture, it is likely they may have to approach someone else. Some fans speculate they may invite over Wil Wheaton, causing a little bit of controversy given that he was one of the main cast members in "Star Trek," the rival franchise of "Star Wars."

"The Big Bang Theory" season 9 episode 11 will air this Dec. 17. The season will return in early 2016.
