Texas Rangers trade rumors 2018: Formers Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson traded to New York Yankees 'for future considerations'

After the Texas Rangers acquired quarterback Russell Wilson from the Seattle Seahawks, the team traded the QB to the New York Yankees "for future considerations." It appears that Wilson wants to experience professional baseball again, and is taking a break from football.

The 29-year old quarterback is expected to appear at the New York Yankees major league camp which will take place in March. He is also expected to participate in pregame workouts and spectate Yankees games during his stay in Florida.

Wilson is expected to be a part of the Double-A Trenton roster. The infielder's previous experiences bring him at a .229 batting average. This was during his participation in the low minor leagues in Colorado during 2010 and 2011.

Still, the Yankees expressed their delight in acquiring the player.

"We've admired Russell's career from afar for quite some time," says Brian Cashman, Yankees general manager. He adds that having Wilson in the roster presents a "unique opportunity" for the team; to learn from whom Cashman describes as an athlete that has "reached the pinnacle of his profession."

Meanwhile, Wilson himself is grateful to his football team, the Rangers, for letting him experience professional baseball again. In a statement, the athlete said that while football is his passion and livelihood, baseball remains "a huge part" of where he came from and who he is today.

Wilson gave more credit to baseball, saying that what he learned in the diamond field also translates to his game "physically and mentally playing quarterback in the NFL [National Football League]."

Reports say that the athlete has long desired to play for the Yankees, so both Cashman and Rangers general manager Jon Daniels spent weeks discussing the trade.

Wilson insists that the recent trade is not a sign that he is switching sports, but merely him dabbling in baseball during the offseason.
