'Terminator 5' spoilers, trailer and synopsis: Critics not happy with new trailer

It seems like the trailer for "Terminator: Genisys" didn't live up to expectations. What went wrong?

When it was first announced that Arnold Schwarzenegger's original T-300 would be back, many "Terminator" fans were filled with excitement and enthusiasm. The anticipation for the trailer built up and fans couldn't wait to get a sneak peek of the movie. December came and the trailer for the new "Terminator" installment was finally unveiled. However, critics weren't happy with it, although the same can't be said for the fans. Nonetheless, something is obviously lacking in the preview.

For one, ScreenCrush says that the posters look more promising that the trailer itself. It seems like the hype following the trailer wasn't followed through. The site also notes that the story looks the same as the original, except this time, the characters are played by younger actors. The T-1000 is there, and Schwarzenegger says his famous line "I'll be back" in the trailer. The report also describes the action scenes to be quite unoriginal.

But what's the great thing about the trailer? There's Emilia Clarke, who is a good representation of Sarah Connor and passes for a younger Linda Hamilton. Can she actually carry the movie herself? Jai Courtney doesn't seem to be much help at all. He doesn't look or feel like the original Kyle Reese.

The original synopsis for the movie reads: "The year is 2029. John Connor, leader of the resistance continues the war against the machines. At the Los Angeles offensive, John's fears of the unknown future begin to emerge when TECOM spies reveal a new plot by SkyNet that will attack him from both fronts; past and future, and will ultimately change warfare forever."

Considering that the movie is still seven months away, maybe the next trailer will be a lot better. "Terminator: Genisys" hits theaters on July 1, 2015.
