'Terminator 5' movie plot to revist past 'Terminator' films, to be a reboot with 'time travel' twist

While the fifth installment for "The Terminator" franchise has been slotted for a release in July 2015, two more films in the movie series are expected to arrive in theatres in 2017 and 2018, thereby making a "Terminator" trilogy for the next four years, Deadline has reported.

With Alan Taylor taking on the directorial duties, "Terminator 5", also referred to as "Terminator: Genisys," will have Arnold Schwarzenegger reprising his role as T-800. Other stars to join the fifth installment include Emilia Clarke (Sarah Connor), Jai Courtney (Kyle Reese), Jason Clarke (John Connor) and Dayo Okeniyi (Danny Dyson).

Fans will also see new cast members, including Matt Smith, J.K. Simmons, Byung Hun Lee, Michael Gladis and Courtney Vance.

Schwarzenegger took to social media and shared a photo on Instagram, indicating that the cast and crew have already wrapped up filming on the latest installment of "Terminator." However, the "Terminator 5" movie plot remains uncertain despite being rumoured to be a reboot and will likely take on the same storyline.

On the contrary, Enstarz reported that the new movie will follow a "time travel theme" that will transport the audience to the previous films in the "Terminator" series, which will be linked to the context of "Terminator: Genisys." A new plot has then been generated based on "The Terminator" and "Terminator 2: Judgement Day."

Despite the fifth movie's plot remaining uncertain and an official trailer not being released, "Terminator 5" has already been slotted for a premiere on the big screen on July 1, 2015.

Meanwhile, rumors that Schwarzenegger teamed up with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson for one of the "Terminator" sequels have surfaced. In one of Johnson's online interviews, the 67-year-old actor took the time to congratulate the WWE star and mention sharing "sword stories" that sparked up the buzz of their possible "Terminator" collaboration.

"I just came here to congratulate Dwayne, but you just gave me a great idea for a movie," the former California governor said. "I would love to do a movie with Dwayne - the Oak and the Rock - it couldn't be more perfect."

He further added: "Anyway, congratulations Dwayne. The movie looks fantastic and I can tell you know what's best in life. Let's get together soon and share sword stories."

In response, Johnson took to social media and tweeted his word of thanks, saying: "Awesome #HERCULESMovie comments from my bud @Schwarzenegger Look forward to swappin' sword stories."

Aside from "Terminator 5", the two other sequels for the "Terminator" series have been scheduled for a premiere date on May 19, 2017 and June 29, 2018, as confirmed by Paramount.
