'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2' news: Megan Fox and crew discuss film's improvements

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows Official still; Platinum Dunes, Paramount Pictures

"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows" is currently in production and most recently a trailer was launched online. Speaking with MTV, actress Megan Fox revealed one reason why the second film will be significantly better than the 2014 original.

"They hired a director who's a super fan of the Turtles, they figured out the tone of the movie should be funny," she explained. "This isn't Turtles in Gotham City, that's the wrong way to take it."

A report from Cinema Blend dissects Fox's statements and explain why her short response should give fans of the franchise hope. One of the first things the report points to is that the Fox acknowledges director Dave Green is a big fan of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" and that love for the franchise will bleed onto the finished product.

The report explains that while it isn't a necessity, there have been many examples where a director already familiar with the source material is more capable of producing a more enjoyable film. Examples given include J.J. Abrams who directed "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and Joss Whedon who directed "Avengers" and "Avengers: Age of Ultron."

The second part of Fox's statements confirm that the second film will focus on elements that worked in the first film. Not every film needs to be dark and brooding like Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight" trilogy and as stated in a report from Collider one of the most celebrated moments in the first "Turtles" film was the humorous elevator scene.

In a separate report from Collider, it was also discussed by the cast and crew that humor will be more apparent in the film and unlike the first project, the turtles will have more screen time compared to the human characters. It is further explained that the first film was more of an experiment and that the production crew is now more attuned to what would work for the sequel.

"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows" will release this June 3, 2016.
