'Teen Wolf' season 5B spoilers: Rivalry between Stiles and Scott continues

 MTV

"Teen Wolf" season 5 took a mid-season break with episode 10 airing last Aug. 24, marking the first time the network has split a season into two chapters. The back half, season 5B, will premiere on Jan. 5 and the first promotional trailer confirms that the battle waged between Scott (Tyler Posey) and Stiles (Dylan O'Brien) continues.

The two had an epic clash back in season 5 episode 9 and it appears that their conflict will continue to grow as Scott's pack struggles to dominate over Theo's (Cody Christian). It is highly possible that Stiles will be the wild card that will put everyone put together to fight against a unique new enemy that appears to be made of slime.

However, their union might only be temporary as the trailer also showcases several new mysteries for Scott, Stiles and Theo's packs to ponder. There is a sequence at the very beginning of the promo showing Lydia (Holland Roden) wading in the same waters where Theo killed his sister, hinting that the latter's motivation for doing so will be explored.

Scenes depicting Sheriff Stilinski (Linden Ashby) in the hospital are also shown, indicating that the consequences of Scott and Stiles war have affected others beyond their packs. However, Sheriff's also shown trying to deliver an important message which may be related to the episode's new enemy or the new group hunting the packs.

Whichever direction Scott and Stiles war goes in in season 5B, one thing that will be further explored is the relationship between Kira (Arden Cho) and Scott. The trailer doesn't particularly showcase the two together and instead focuses on Kira's action sequences but there is the possibility she and Scott may break up for good or become a much stronger union as they join forces once again.

The end of the trailer shows the Dread Doctors hunting everyone down so there is always the chance of Scott simply letting Kira go just to keep her out of the game and out of danger.

"Teen Wolf" season 5B will premiere this Jan. 5.
