During this year's Television Critics Association press tour, TNT announced that they will not be moving forward with a live-action "Teen Titans" show. However, a new report from TVLine indicates that there is still hope and that the series may move forward in a different format and on a different network.
DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns, who supervises not only the majority of the DC comic books but also the numerous DC television shows such as "The Flash" and movies like "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," recently stated that they are moving forward with something else that is also related to the "Teen Titans."
"We at DC have known about Turner nixing 'Titans' for months and months and months. That's not new news to us," Johns explained. "We have plans for 'Titans.' It's a huge piece of DC and we have plans."
However, Johns did not further elaborate if the "Teen Titans" series they are currently working on will be based on a new script and if it will star different superheroes compared to the one prepared for TNT. It is also unknown if the new series will tie into other successful DC series such as "Arrow," "The Flash," "Supergirl" and "Legends of Tomorrow," all of which are narratively tied to one another.
Marvel Studios has been able to establish their own "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." series on ABC, a series which ties into their feature films, and a separate line of series on Netflix, including "Daredevil" and "Jessica Jones." All of these are are only loosely connected to the feature films and have a stronger connection to one another as Netflix originals.
According to a report from Screen Rant, the series developed for TNT was initially going to be titled "Blackbirds" and would focus on the younger DC heroes such as Dick Grayson aka Robin/Nightwing, Rachel Roth aka Raven, Starfire, Hawk and Dove, and Barbara Gordon aka the Oracle.
The pilot was written by Academy Award winner Akiva Goldsman and Marc Haims but the series was eventually turned down, reportedly due to "the oversaturation" of comic book television series currently airing.
