Tearfund launches aid app for iPhone

Tearfund has launched a new campaigning application for the iPhone and iPad, the first of its kind to be launched by an aid group in the UK.

The Christian organisation said the Superbadger app would help campaigners speak up on behalf of marginalised people.

The app has been named after Tearfund’s online petitions mascot, Superbadger, and enables people to add their name to petitions calling for a fairer, more just world.

The petitions may point to corporations asking them to act more responsibly or to world leaders asking them to take bold action on behalf of the world’s poorest and most vulnerable individuals, the organisation said.

The Superbadger app is out in the Appstore today.

Ben Niblett, Head of Campaigns, said: “It’s such an accessible way for seasoned campaigners or total beginners to raise their voices and badger governments on behalf of marginalised and downtrodden communities.

“Now the power to see real change really is in the palm of your hand.”

The aid agency has already unleashed SuperBadger on Facebook and Twitter and said that the iphone app felt like a natural progression for their campaigning work.

Niblett concluded: “Social media and smart phones are increasingly becoming a part of our everyday lives. We just want to make it as easy as possible for our supporters to be able to make a difference.”
