The Microsoft Surface Pro 5 has been in the rumor mill for quite some time now, especially since it was initially anticipated to be announced last October. When Microsoft launched only the Surface Studio and Surface Book i7 back then, new speculations point to a March update. Still, March has come and gone and Microsoft has not said any word about the device.

Now, Microsoft is going to have an event coming to New York City on May 2. Many believe that this could pertain to the launch of the Microsoft Surface Pro 5, given that the company usually uses these events to unveil new products. However, according to Business Insider, sources close to the company say that it is unlikely for Microsoft to launch Surface Pro 5 in that event.

Instead, Microsoft may use the event as a venue focusing on creativity and education, especially after the launch of the Windows 10 Creators Update. According to the sources of the same news portal, the company's news will tackle both software and hardware, but it is still uncertain what exactly are these.

This is quite consistent with the discussion between Joe Belfiore, corporate vice president in Microsoft's Operating Systems Group, and Mashable. The news portal revealed that Belfiore is focused on the release of the Windows 10 Creators Update. He is also working on creating innovative and interesting Windows devices, as well as increasing the reach of the Microsoft Edge. As for any news regarding the Surface Pro 5, Belfiore did not comment further regarding the hybrid device.

Despite the lack of information, there are still rumors regarding the possible specifications of the Surface Pro 5. The Microsoft Surface Pro 5 may come with either a Qualcomm Snapdragon 635 chipset or the Intel Kaby Lake processor. Along with this, Microsoft Surface Pro 5 may come with 16 GB of random access memory (RAM) and 512 GB of internal storage.

In addition, there are speculations that the upcoming device may launch two variants, one with a 2K resolution, while the other a 4K resolution. Other features rumored for the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 include a longer battery life, a USB Type-C port support, as well as a rechargeable Surface Pen.

The Microsoft Surface Pro 5 may be released in October.
