'Supernatural' season 11 spoilers, cast news: Jared Padalecki returning as Sam Winchester despite recent drawback

Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester in "Supernatural" The CW

After actor Jared Padalecki dropped out of the "Supernatural" tour in Rome and Australia, fans speculated that he would no longer reprise his role as Sam Winchester in the upcoming 11th season of the show. He has put these rumors to rest by confirming he will return this season.

According to a new report from E! News, Padalecki was deeply apologetic for letting his fans down when he was not able to join the rest of the cast and crew in their international tours. The report continues to explain that the actor needed some private time to be back with his family and that he had to drop out due to extreme exhaustion.

"At this time he needs to be home with his family. He's doing better already and is excited about shooting 'Supernatural' season 11 this July. For now he's taking a break, but is so appreciative of his fans, and sees and feels their love and support," read the statement from the studios.

It is still unclear what personal issues the actor is going through but the problem was made public last Friday, May 29, when he posted via Twitter, "Dear #JIBCON and #AHBL6. I am in desperate and urgent need of my family. I am so sorry to tell you this but I must head home."

As cited by the Latin Post, Paladecki did admit in an interview last March that he had been dealing with depression for some time. According to his statement in E! News, the actor experienced a moment while shooting a scene back for season 3 when he sought the privacy of his trailer and "broke down."

Although he is confirmed to return for season 11, the Latin Post also points out that this may be the last season of the show given that neither Padalecki nor his co-lead Jensen Ackles has signed on to renew their contract for season 12 and beyond.
