As the roster for "Super Smash Bros" is slowly revealed, fans of the game noticed that Fire Emblem's lead Chrom is not included in the roster. Game director Masahiro Sakurai explains why Chrom isn't included and why he didn't make the cut.
It was revealed that Robin, Lucina and Captain Falcon will be part of the game, with Robin and Lucina coming from "Fire Emblem: Awakening." They are two of the main characters of the game, together with Chrom. Many believe that Chrom is a more preferred choice to include in the game's roster, but what happened was different.
Sakurai explained why he opted to keep Chrom out of "Super Smash Bros 4" and picked Robin and Lucina instead. Right now, Ike, Marth, Robin and Lucina are part of the roster. According to Nintendolife, there is a clear explanation why Sakurai decided things this way.
First, the simple reason for adding Robin and Lucina was because he really loves "Fire Emblem: Awakening." Next, he chose Robin first, before he decided between Lucina and Chrome. Sakurai likes that Robin does not only wield a sword, but is a strong magic user too.
Now, it boils down to Lucina or Chrom and Sakurai factored in the play style and uniqueness of both characters. "At the end of the day, Chrom would just end up being another plain-old sword-wielder like Marth and Ike. Compared with other characters, he lacks any unique characteristics," explains GoNintendo.
In defense of Lucina's inclusion in the game, iDigitalTimes points out that she is, after all, the first female character from "Fire Emblem" that will make it in "Smash Bros." Also, her skills are technically different, as she is able to distribute damage evenly compared to Marth.
All in all, it's Lucina's unique character and different play style that allowed her to make the cut, surpassing the favorite Chrom. As for Chrom, creators of the game reckon that he will just be another swordwielder in the game. What do you think?
