'Super Smash Bros. 4' news: Bayonetta and Corrin join the roster; Masahiro Sakurai talks about the latest characters

The Fighter Ballot for "Super Smash Bros. 4" has concluded and it was revealed last week that Bayonetta and Corrin are the two new faces set to join the game.

The news was announced by game creator Masahiro Sakurai, who also wrote in his Famitsu column (translated by Nintendo Everything) this week about the new addition.

Sakurai mentioned that there were 1.8 million votes cast for Bayonetta from all around the world. He also shared his opinion on the recently added characters.

Nintendo Everything mentioned that Bayonetta was the top-ranked character when it comes to "realizable and negotiable characters." Bayonetta also placed as the first choice among European gamers and belonged to one of the top five choices in the United States.

Putting Bayonetta in the "Smash Bros." wasn't all that easy. It was revealed that Sakurai admitted meeting some challenges when moving the witch to "Super Smash Bros."

For this reason, Bayonetta was made into a combo-oriented character. The team also faced some problems when it comes to keeping her from increasing the game ratings, since even the slightest bit of sexual exposure in Japan would likely increase the rating from A (or suitable for all ages).

As for Corrin, Sakurai said that they wanted the game to feature a character coming from a recently released or an upcoming game. "Fire Emblem Fates" is just the right game since it was made available in Japan last June and will arrive in western regions in February.

The decision to put Corrin was also supported by the staff, who believed that the character was an appropriate choice.

Cloud Strife from "Final Fantasy" also joined the franchise and this decision was made due to the character's popularity. With the giant Buster Sword in one hand, Cloud will be the player who does exceptionally in power, speed, and range.

Cloud is just recently made available, but players will have to wait for about two months before they can play Corrin and Bayonetta.
