Amazon has just named its top 10 games of 2015, and claiming the number one spot is none other than "Super Mario Maker."
In a year that featured "Fallout 4" and "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt," naming "Super Mario Maker" as the top offering may be a surprise to some, but Amazon makes its case for the fun Nintendo title.
According to Amazon, what sets "Super Mario Maker" apart from its competitors is its ability to allow players to "create and play," a combination that they believe captures the meaning of what gaming is truly about.
Still, Amazon naming "Super Mario Maker" its top game of the year does not take away from the greatness of the other previously mentioned games.
In fact, Amazon had "Fallout 4" and "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" finishing in second and third place on their list, respectively.
Coming in fourth is "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain," which is otherwise known as Hideo Kojima's farewell to his beloved franchise.
Finishing in the fifth spot is "Cities Skylines," a building simulation game that puts players in charge of designing and creating their own metropolis from scratch.
"Bloodborne" uses its dark and mysterious charms to nab the sixth spot, while finishing in seventh is Rocksteady's "Batman: Arkham Knight."
Ending up in the eighth spot is DontNod's "Life is Strange," with another Nintendo entry, "Splatoon" finishing in ninth. Earlier in the month, "Splatoon" was also named as the top game for the Wii U, at least according to Miiverse users, IGN reported.
Rounding out Amazon's list of top games for 2015 is the hit sporting title "Rocket League."
It should be worth noting that Amazon's list contains their picks for the best games of the year, and not the best-selling titles according to their database, GameSpot reported.
More top games of 2015 lists are likely to come out with just a few days remaining on the calendar.
