'Suits' season 5 news: Gets good premiere ratings, officially renewed for season 6

Suits USA

"Suits" season 5 has just premiered and its first episode garnered 2.13 million viewers in the U.S. According to a report from Cinema Blend, the series had a general average of 3.4 million viewers in the past seasons, thus it comes as no surprise that USA has officially renewed the series for season 6.

"'Suits' has set the bar high in every way and continues to be a strong performer and marquee property for USA," USA Network president Chris McCumber explained to TVLine. "From the incredible on-screen performances and brilliant writing to the aspirational lifestyle portrayed, we look forward to continuing to bring viewers into the world of 'Suits' every week."

According to the report from Cinema Blend, "Suits" season 6 will have a total of 16 episodes, ensuring fans that it is not getting cut down due to the lower viewer ratings in recent years. Of course, as the reports points out, there are no major plot points or spoilers yet for season 6 as the season still needs to be written.

This is also the earliest that the network renewed the show for another season. The closest record was when season 2 was ordered during the seventh week of season 1's original run on television. The network reportedly got a "good enough vibe" for them to green light the next season so early.

Season 5, with the two episodes released thus far at the time of writing, has seen Mike and Rachael get engaged. Donna and Harvey, meanwhile, went their separate ways, at least in terms of their work; and Mike also ended his run as an investment banker. The show's pacing is going back to the way things were in previous seasons: focusing on court debates and the scenes that happen behind closed doors.

No premiere date has yet been released but given that "Suits" often premieres around June to July, season 6 is expected to premiere around the same time next year.
