The first official trailer for David Ayer's "Suicide Squad" was launched during this year's San Diego Comic-Con and was meant to be an exclusive feature. The trailer was leaked online, however, and Warner Bros. was forced to upload the official high-resolution version themselves.
The trailer opens with Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) describing the Suicide Squad, also known as Task Force X, to her peers. She explains that they are all criminals and can be used by the government for covert ops. If the plan fails, then they can just blame the issue on the bad guys, ensuring that the government keeps its hands clean no matter what.
Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) is the first member shown, dangling in her cage. Quick shots of Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), El Diablo (Jay Hernandez), Katanna (Karen Fukuhara) and Enchantress (Cara Delevingne) are shown. Most of the footage focuses on Harley and Deadshot (Will Smith).
There is a quick shot of goons shooting in what appears to be a store or facility. The criminals are wearing masks — with one of them in a Batman mask — and it is speculated that they are working for the Joker (Jared Leto).
A quick shot of the Batman (Ben Affleck) on top of the Joker's car is also shown, so it is confirmed that the Caped Crusader will have some presence in the film. Fans speculate that he will play a minor role similar to his appearance in the animated film "Batman: Assault on Arkham."
The Joker's past with Harley Quinn is hinted to be shown in the film as well. There is a scene in the trailer showing Joker and Harley, both without makeup, and one where Harley is strapped to a table.
It appears that she is the one that the Joker is talking to when he utters the words, "Oh I'm not going to kill you. I'm just going to hurt you really, really bad."
It is possible that this is a flashback showing how the Joker turned Harley insane, essentially turning her into the psychotic criminal she is now.
"Suicide Squad" opens in theaters on Aug. 5, 2016.
