'Suicide Squad' in costume: A first look

"Suicide Squad" has just entered production in Canada and a few official photos have been released thus far, including a first look at Jared Leto's Joker. Now, director David Ayer has given the first official photo of the titular Suicide Squad, also known as Task Force X, via Twitter with the caption, "Task Force X assembled and ready."

From left to right, the photo consists of Adam Beach playing Slipknot, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevingne as the Enchantress, Karen Fukuhara as Katana, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Will Smith as Deadshot, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, and Jay Hernandez as El Diablo.

Ayer later posted via Twitter a solo photo of Deadshot, this time with the character's iconic mask.

From the comic book source material, the Suicide Squad is a group of DC super villains hired by the U.S. Government and managed by Amanda Waller to tackle special military assignments. The members are implanted with explosives, ensuring they don't try to double-cross or escape, and every successful mission slashes off a bit of their jail time.

Smith and Robbie are the top billed leads for "Suicide Squad" so they may be the main villains in focus. Joel Kinnaman's Rick Flagg is being described more as a soldier sent by Amanda Waller to make sure the Suicide Squad achieves what they are sent out to do, so he may be more of a special agent instead of a villain.

Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor and Ben Affleck's Batman are rumored to have cameo appearances in the film. Leaked set photos reveal Ben Affleck at the "Suicide Squad" set so Bruce Wayne may be in the movie but there is no official word if Wayne's alter-ego Batman will be seen in costume.

"Suicide Squad" will hit theaters on Aug. 5, 2016.
