The next generation Subaru Impreza's appearance is not a mystery as it was unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show last October.
However, Subaru introduced last Wednesday the four-door Impreza, named Impreza Sedan Concept, which will cater to the U.S. market. The updated sedan concept, which debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show that opened last Nov. 20 and will run until Nov. 29, will be available as a 2017 car model and will hit dealerships in late 2016, Yahoo News reported.
As per the media release from the carmaker, the Impreza Sedan Concept is measured at 4.55 meters (or 14.9 feet) in length, 1.45 meters (4.7 feet) in height and 1.78 meters (5.8 feet) in width. This makes the new Concept shorter and lower, but wider compared to the existing model.
Subaru also said that the new Concept's aerodynamic design is made possible by its functional and stylish rear spoiler. The five-seat vehicle is finished with ruby red metallic paint with black accents that should give the sedan an "energetic" appeal.
The front retains the Subaru signature of hexagon grille, hawk-eye headlights, and the characteristic aircraft-like wing. It also earned a unique character line found in the upper door.
The Sedan Concept is also described to be "sportier and less angular" compared to the previous Impreza model. This fresh design hints that it won't only be seen in the future Impreza designs, but also in other Subaru car models.
Subaru has not divulged on the engine details for the Impreza Sedan Concept, but it's likely that the next generation will carry the same 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that delivers 148 horsepower, Yahoo noted.
Car and Driver also wrote that the upcoming sedan could also feature an all-wheel drive and offer two options: manual or continuously variable automatic transmissions.
Subaru is expected to provide more details soon, before the Sedan Concept arrives in showrooms late next year.
