"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" will not have any post-credits scenes. During a press conference, director J.J. Abrams said the last scene that plays before the credits roll will indeed be the last scene of the film with no teaser attached at the end of the credits, reports Collider.
"No, there's not. All the scenes are actually in the movie," the director explained when asked about a scene during or after the credits.
It has become common practice for many films to feature post-credits scene. This is commonly seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which has made the use of post-credits scenes popular again since they teased the "Avengers" back in the first "Iron Man" film.
Given that Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm are both under the Disney label, it has been presumed that "The Force Awakens" would utilize the same tactic and would also feature a scene during or after the credits such as a teaser trailer for "Star Wars Anthologies: Rogue One."
While this may be a bit of a departure for Disney fans, it is no surprise for many "Star Wars" fans. None of the previous six films had a post-credits scene and adding one now might appear as a cheap marketing tactic to appear more in line with what's trendy in today's cinema.
Abrams' statements not only make it clear that "The Force Awakens" will not follow the current trend but that it will stick to how the original six "Star Wars" movies played out, from the abscence of a post-credits scene to the inclusion of a text scroll at the beginning of the film.
That being said, "Rogue One" will release only a few months later in 2016 and it is highly speculated that Disney and Lucasfilm will feature some sort of marketing ploy coinciding with the release of "The Force Awakens," such as launching the first teaser trailer the day the film releases.
"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" opens this Dec. 18.
