'Star Wars Episode 7' plot rumors; Ken Leung as high ranking military officer?

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" has already finished production and is now in the editing phase, but director J.J. Abrams is known for holding production secrets close to his chest. Even with new details emerging every week, very little information surrounding the film has been verified. Most recently, a new report states that actor Ken Leung is also in the film.

Abrams is known for working with people he has worked with in the past. Leung was a regular in the later seasons of Abrams' hit television series "Lost" and also had a recurring role in the Abrams-produced series, "Person of Interest." He also appeared in "X-Men: The Last Stand" as Omega Kid.

According to a report from StarWars7News, the actor portrays a high ranking officer in the Resistance, which was formerly known as the Rebel army in the original "Star Wars" trilogy. The report cites that the actor was seen wearing a "brownish uniform with a red belt" and his rank was marked by lines forming an X.

The report quotes costume designer Michael Kaplan who explained that "the Rebels in 'The Force Awakens' are in khakis and olives and some oranges — warmer colors." This description fits perfectly with the uniform that Leung was said to have been wearing on the set.

The original trilogy used dots instead of lines for military insignia. The rank of a general was formed by five dots forming an X so it is likely that the insignia Leung was wearing is an updated design, hence furthering the speculation that he is portraying a general in the Resistance and is one of Princess Leia's allies.

However, the report also said that Leung only filmed for several days, indicating that while his character may be a prominent figure in the "Star Wars" universe, his role in the film may be a small one.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" opens in theaters on Dec. 18.
