'Star Wars: Battlefront' gameplay: Leia, Han Solo and Emperor Palpatine

Star Wars Battlefront - Princess Leia Organa DICE/EA Games

"Star Wars: Battlefront" will allow players to play as some of the franchise's most iconic characters such as Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader and Boba Fett. A recent post from the official PlayStation Blog now confirms that Princess Leia, Han Solo, and Emperor Palpatine will also be playable characters.

Lead hero designer Jaime Keen explained in the post that not all characters could play the same. While designing combat for those using blasters and lightsabers was straightforward, it was a different task to design characters such as Leia Organa, who isn't often associated with combat.

Princess Leia is described more as a leader and support character who can buff team members and hold positions for defensive combat. However, just because she is a support character doesn't mean she can't be useful offensively.

Keen explained that in the movies, Princess Leia quickly dispatches Storm Troopers with her skills with a blaster, and this skill has been carried over to the game. The skill, called Trooper Bane, is fired in single bursts and is capable of killing a Storm Trooper with one hit.

Han Solo is designed as a powerful gunslinger with three offensive skills. First is Rapid Fire, which allows him to fire quickly without worrying about overheating. His second skill is the Lucky Shot, which is described as a "build up and release" skill. It is strong enough to break through even Darth Vader's guard.

His third skill is the Shoulder Charge, inspired from a scene from "Star Wars: A New Hope" where Han Solo charges into a group of enemy Storm Troopers.

Palpatine's main attack is his Force Lightning, a power which has been seen multiple times in the films. A more powerful form is the Chain Lightning ability which affects enemies all around the player.

The Emperor also has an ability called Force Dash which allows him to suddenly move extremely fast in a single direction, allowing him to move up to an enemy in an instant. Like Leia, he can also be a support character with his Imperial Resources skill that spawns power-ups for allies.

"Star Wars: Battlefront" releases on Nov. 17 for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
