The much-anticipated Sony Xperia Z4 did not show up at the Consumer Electronics Show publicly, although there are murmurs that the handset was showcased behind closed doors. Now, there are speculations that the smartphone will instead make an appearance at another trade show in March.

At the CES, Stephen Sneeden, Product Marketing Communications Executive of Sony Mobile, addressed the inevitable questions regarding its flagship smartphone bound for release this year. He jokingly said that Sony does not pre-announce products. The executive also remained coy regarding the release date of the Xperia Z4. He emphasized that the company only recently updated its smartphone line by releasing the Xperia Z3 and its variants. He also added that Sony is currently studying the impact made by its latest handset. However, some reports claim that Sony showcased the Z4 to U.S. carriers at the trade show in Las Vegas, although the company has not confirmed these reports.

Many people thought that Sony will take the wraps off the Sony Xperia Z4 at the CES after it dropped hints via a video teaser entitled "Welcome to the New World." Since that didn't come to pass, many are expecting Sony to show off the Xperia Z4 at the Mobile World Congress kicking off on March 2.

The Sony Xperia Z4 is now rumored to have two variants boasting different screen resolutions. According to whispers, one will have a quad HD (2560 x 1440) resolution and while the other will render a full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. The screen size of the two variants will be the same at 5.5 inches.

Although Sony has not released an official specs sheet yet, other rumored features of the smartphone are Snapdragon 810 chipset, 4 GB RAM, Android 5.0 Lollipop OS, 21-megapixel Exmor IMX230 camera sensor and 3.2-megapixel front-facing camera, and 3300 mAh battery. The smartphone is rumored to be launched alongside a full line of Xperia Z4 variants like the Z4 Compact, the Z4 Ultra, and tablet variants.
