In October this year, two premium phones hit the market. Since the arrival of the Sony Xperia Z3 and the Apple iPhone 6, the competition in the smartphone arena became tighter. With almost identical dates of inception, how will the two weigh against each other?
There is a bit of a showdown with the build. The Xperia phone is well put together in its aluminum and glass casing. The Cupertino company, on the other hand, is unbeatable in the design area and it's all because of the high-end aluminum exterior found on their devices, and that includes the iPhone 6.
The Xperia handset is also thicker and heavier between the two with its 7.3 mm thin body and 152 g weight. The iPhone 6, one of the slimmest handset in the market, sports a sleek build that measures only 6.99 mm thick (or thin) and weighs 129 g.
The iPhone 6 may be Apple's first in its full-size handset line-up but it is still comparably smaller when measured against the Xperia Z. The technology used on the smartphone's screen may be a different story though, with an ending only a user's taste will determine.
The iPhone 6 sports a 4.7-inch Retina HD display. Apple guarantees the new-fangled screen to generate a higher resolution. Tech review sites see eye to eye with the company regarding the claim. In addition, the Apple flagship generates a 750 x 1334 screen resolution, which renders a 326 ppi pixel density. This makes it look inferior to Sony Xperia Z3, which sports a 5.2-inch Full HD display making for a 1080 x 1920 resolution and a 424 ppi pixel density. However, the word is that both smartphones deliver equally sharp and crisp details.
The Sony handset comes with a 2.5 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor and 3 GB of RAM. The iPhone 6 is powered by the new A8 processor clocking in at 1.4 GHz. It is only paired with 1 GB RAM, which may not be much for some. However, after a review by Business Spectator, it concluded that it still runs "smooth like butter."
The Sony houses a sizeable 20.7-megapixel rear shooter, almost triple iPhone 6's 8-megapixel primary camera. The former also has a 2.2-megapixel snapper at the front while the latter has a 1.2-megapixel FaceTime camera. However, while the rear camera of the Xperia Z3 can shoot at 2160p at 30fps (frames per second), 1080p at 60fps, and 720p at 120fps, the iPhone's can capture 1080p at 60fps and 720p at 240fps.
With the iPhone 6's 1810 mAh battery, the smartphone can last 14 hours while the Xperia Z3's 3100 mAh allows for two additional hours of usage.
Sony Xperia Z3 seems to be the heavyweight in this face-off with its waterproof and dust proof build. The iPhone 6 is lacking the capability, but it sure has more of an internal feature to boast, which is in the form of the newest mobile payment system, the Apple Pay.
Buyers can get the Sony Xperia Z3 in 16 GB and 32 GB with Black, White, Copper and Silver Green colors to choose from. The iPhone 6 is available in bigger storage capacities such as 16, 32 and 128 GB with Space Gray, Silver and Gold as color variants. The iPhone 6 has a $650 price tag while users can get the Xperia Z3 a teeny tiny bit cheaper for $620.
