Sony's flagship phone, the Xperia Z series, is already awaiting its turn to get the latest Google OS update — the Android 5.0 Lollipop. When Google made the announcement last year, phone manufacturers like Motorola, LG and Samsung have been trying to roll out Lollipop in their phones. Needless to say, Sony is doing its part, too.

According to Android Geeks, the Android 5.0 Lollipop update should roll out in the first quarter of 2015 for both the Sony Xperia Z3 and Z2. But in recent news, the rollout may just happen sooner.

In an update in the Xperia official blog, a certification from the Wi-Fi Alliance dated Feb. 16 was posted. This means that it would either roll out in the remaining days of February or early March.

While this is great news for all Z2 and Z3 phone owners, one should know that every OS update happens in phases. Not everyone can immediately download the update once released. Some will enjoy getting the update upon release, while some need to wait longer to be able to install the latest firmware for their Sony mobile phones.

The Xperia Z phones can automatically detect available firmware updates so users just have to wait for a notification. To manually check for updates, they can simply go to Settings, About Phone, Software Updates and Check Now.

Every OS update gives mobile phone users much excitement to see what's new and how the OS has been improved. For the Android 5.0 Lollipop, there will be changes in lock screen notifications, Material Design, Android runtime, battery statistics, dynamic status bar, improved notification bar and a whole lot more.
