"Soma" the underwater sci-fi, horror game is coming to the Xbox One in December, and it's coming with a new difficulty mode known as Safe Mode. This is good news for exploration game fans who don't cope well with horror because Safe Mode gets rid of all the spooky creatures that go bump in the night.

Safe Mode has been added for people who merely want to explore the game's lore and the eerie underwater settings. Considering "Soma" came out as a horror exploration game, the new mode does away with many of the scary encounters, making it more player friendly.

The developers of "Soma", Frictional Games, tweeted about this new mode on Nov. 17.

"Protected from the hostile creatures below, let yourself sink into the mystery and atmosphere of PATHOS-II as you uncover the truth and determine the fate of the station.

SOMA for XBOX One - now with Safe Mode."

According to Rolling Stone, PC players will reportedly be able to download safe mode for free. Meanwhile those who purchase the game for the Xbox One will no longer have to download the mode, it will come with the game itself.

Fans of the game took to online forums such as Reddit to discuss the upcoming mode. A handful didn't mind, stating that the game might even be better without the monsters because the players would be able to explore more instead of repeating segments because they were attacked or because a monster cornered them and killed them.

"Soma" was first released in September of 2015. It was developed by Frictional Games, the developers of the hit psychological game, "Amnesia the Dark Descent." Similar to its predecessor, Soma is a psychological horror game set in an underwater research facility known as the PATHOS-II.

Players will be tasked to explore the underwater facility and uncover the game's secrets through scenery, audio tapes, notes, and puzzle solving. Players will also encounter monsters and will have to rely on stealth and their wits in order to make it out of the PATHOS-II alive.
