Yacht Club Games has announced on their official website that "Shovel Knight" is getting an official physical release this October, which will be available at all retail stores. The game will come with a $20 price tag, and will be rolled out for the Nintendo Wii U, 3DS, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. There will also be a physical retail for the PC but only in Europe.
According to Yacht Club Games, the title will include the original "Shovel Knight" campaign, the Challenge Mode, and the game's first content update, "Plague of Shadows," which allows gamers to play the game as Plague Knight instead of Shovel Knight.
Consumers who purchase the physical versions of the game will have the same benefits as those who buy the digital download version, which means they are entitled to all of the upcoming updates to the game which are guaranteed to be free. These upcoming updates include the Specter Knight Campaign, King Knight Campaign, Battle Mode, and Body Swap Mode.
The announcement also states that the physical retail will come with a lavish manual.
"No 2-page inserts here! You deserve a full manual, to hold in your hot little shaking hands and pore over as you wait to get home!" reads the official post from Yacht Club Games.
According to a report from GamesRadar, the amount of data that "Shovel Knight" consumes is very small compared to the maximum amount that a Blu-Ray disc can hold. These discs are used by both PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One and are capable of holding roughly 50 GB of data, but the report says that "Shovel Knight" only requires 200 MB.
"Shovel Knight" was originally released in 2013 for the PC, Wii U, and 3DS. Ports to Linux and OS X were launched in 2014 while ports to the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PS Vita, and Xbox One were released in 2015. The game is also available on the Steam community service.
The physical retail version of "Shovel Knight" will hit U.S. store shelves by Oct. 13 and in Europe by Oct. 16.
