Send-a-radio campaign to save lives in developing world

Christian charity Feba has launched a new campaign to send radios to people around the world suffering from poverty or disaster.

Funds raised through the campaign will be used to send radios to hard-to-reach communities in particular.

Radios are a vital way of bringing life-saving and life-changing information to people living in remote areas or without access to basic services.

Feba broadcasts to communities in Africa, South and Central Asia and the Middle East. Programmes offer Bible teaching but also address life issues, like healthcare, community development, must-know information in the event of a disaster.

Whilst radios are extremely cheap and easy to come by in developed countries, in the developing world many people do not own working radios or are unable to afford new batteries to keep them going.

Gill Knowles, Communications Manager, said: “Often it’s the poorest of the poor who suffer from ill health and difficult living conditions, and with low rates of literacy radio is an ideal medium to provide information and education.

“Advice on nutrition and the prevention of disease, especially HIV, the need for good hygiene and maternal health can be delivered via the radio.

“But they can’t afford batteries which is why Feba has launched ‘save a life, send a radio’ to meet this need.”

Sending a self-powered radio to someone in the developing world or a disaster area costs £15.
