'Scandal' season 5 episode 18 spoilers: Olivia deals with two difficult problems

Olivia realizes what's she's done in "Scandal" season 5, episode 18. ABC

"Scandal" season 5 will be returning after its short hiatus with episode 18, titled "Till Death Do Us Part." The episode will see Olivia (Kerry Washington) dealing with the consequences of one of her previous decisions while also forcing her to make another difficult choice when a revelation comes her way.

According to the synopsis obtained by Cartermatt, Olivia will be dealing the "aftermath" of something she had done in the past. Fans of the series will recall that she was responsible for the death of Vice President Andrew Nichols (Jon Tenney), essentially beating him to death.

It is speculated that this act will come back around, and she will be dealing with the consequences, particularly with Abby (Darby Stanchfield) and Mellie (Bellamy Young) still hounding after her. However, as she deals with something from her past, Olivia will also need to deal with something happening behind the scenes.

According to the synopsis, Olivia will finally discover that Jake (Scott Foley) and Rowan (Joe Morton) have been working together. Although the audience is unaware of what the two are planning, the synopsis states that Olivia knows and that she may already be a little too late to completely stop it because their plans are already in motion.

The synopsis also states that she will need to make a "gut-wrenching decision" in order to stop them in their tracks, and this may involve having to plot a deceitful scheme to kill one or both of them.

Not every moment of the episode will be dedicated to Olivia dealing with past and present dangers as the synopsis also reveals that time will be shared for several flashbacks about Jake and how he initially got involved with B6-13. This may lead up to a revelation that ties in to the present day and his relationship with Rowan.

"Scandal" season 5, episode 18 will air on April 21.
