NBA trade rumors: Pau Gasol rumored to switch from Bulls to San Antonio Spurs

Pau Gasol, famous for his time with the Memphis Grizzlies and the L.A. Lakers, will be hitting free agency soon and instead of signing again with the Chicago Bulls he may be traded off to the San Antonio Spurs. According to a report from Baloncesto (via News 4 San Antonio), his brother Marc Gasol is encouraging this choice.

"For what the franchise represents, by the way they work, how they treat their players, their winning culture: no matter what they follow a defined course and do not change," said Marc Gasol. Marc, who plays for the Memphis Grizzlies, stated that Pau moving to the San Antonio Spurs would be the best choice for his career right now.

According to Sports Rageous, Gasol would fit in easily with the offensive style of the Spurs, particularly now that there is a void to fill following the possible retirement of Tim Duncan. Gasol's method of offense will also work well with LaMarcus Aldridge and Kawhi Leonard.

Gasol, during his most recent season with the Chicago Bulls, has managed an average of 16.5 points, 2 blocks and 11 rebounds in a total of 72 games. He is a six-time NBA All-Star player and won two Championship titles when he was playing with the Los Angeles Lakers, from 2008 to 2014.

The report states that Gasol's records are still impressive given he is already aging and has already moved past his prime in the NBA. Being a very tall and offensive player he may give the San Antonio Spurs an intimidating presence on the hardfloor.

It is important to note that the Chicago Bulls have yet to confirm that they are not going to attempt to re-sign Gasol for the 2016=2017 NBA season but the report points out that they have not yet shown any sign of doing so. It is possible they will allow Gasol to hit free agency where he will then be swept up by the Spurs.
