After it delivered the Android 5.0 Lollipop OS to Samsung Galaxy S5 earlier this month, Samsung is reportedly rolling out the latest 5.0.1 version of the operating system on the device.
Samsung-centric website SamMobile stated that the update is now available in Poland just like the previous version. The update was initially available through the Samsung KIES PC application, but some users claimed that they received Over-The-Air update notifications on their handsets.
The Android 5.0.1 OS update has a build number of LRX21T.G900FXXU1BNL7 and is around 371.33 MB in size. The report added that the 5.0.1 rollout in Poland is a form of beta test for the Lollipop software. The update was supposed to bring fixes and solutions to the major issues found in the previous version.
It is still unknown when Samsung will roll out the new update to Galaxy S5 G900F models in other European markets, although many expect that the mobile OS will be released by the end of the month. The beta test is most likely to ensure that a stable firmware will be rolled out to the general public. Unfortunately, Samsung has not published a change log for the OS update.
Galaxy S5 users will receive a notification that the update is now available for download. One can also check by going to Settings > System > About Device > Software Update > Update menu. They then need to tap on download to install the new version of the OS. Another method is by using the Samsung KIES software via a computer. Users can check if the files are ready for download and then they can move them to their device.
Meanwhile, Android 5.0.1 Lollipop OS was recently rolled out to Nexus and Google Play Edition devices and, like its previous version, it is not free from bugs. Some users of Nexus 7 and 9 reported installation issues which hindered them from downloading the update. There are also Wi-Fi issues as well as audio and home button problems. Google has not commented on the new bugs found yet.
