Galaxy Note 5 release date, specs and rumors: what to expect in September

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Samsung

The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is most likely going to be launched come September during the IFA Berlin 2015 expo, according to a report from iDigital Times. This is based on the Note 4's launch which occurred during the IFA Berlin 2014.

Last year, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 was launched simultaneously with the Note 4 Edge, but the report states that this year's event will only see the launch of the Note 5 with no Edge variety to be unveiled at the same time.

However, according to a report from Trusted Reviews, Samsung might hold back on the Samsung Galaxy Note 5's release. The report cites that while Apple has a habit of releasing their products around 10 days after unveiling, it is possible that Samsung will make the Note 5 available in October, a month after its IFA Berlin reveal.

The reason why Samsung is reportedly not launching the two devices simultaneously is because Samsung is said to be planning on launching the Samsung S6 Edge Plus, a 5.7-inch model of the S6, as early as next month. In order to capitalize on the new device's release, they might scale back the launch of the Note 5 Edge until later this year, especially because they could be too similar to each other.

One of the biggest features of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is its possible inclusion of a 3840 x 2160 pixel Ultra HD display, as cited by Trusted Reviews. The report says that since Android recently moved forward with 4K display support, it could be an indication that the Note 5 will indeed be the first mobile device to support 4K viewing.

Based on the report from iDigital Times, the smartphone's display may measure up to 5.89 inches. The device might feature an Exynos 7422 processor and is speculated to run on a 4,100 mAh battery. It is also rumored to be only 7.9 mm thick, will run on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, and will also come with an S-Pen.
