Samsung Galaxy Note 4 to sport thinner form factor to compete with Apple's iPhone Air?

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 4 may sport a thin body that will battle the rumored iPhone Air.

Based on the photos leaked by reliable tipster @evleaks and TK Tech News, the phablet seemed to have a boxier form factor compared to the rounded shapes of previous Galaxy Note smartphones. The new aesthetics of the Samsung tablet-smartphone phablet resembles the design of Sony Xperia handsets.

It is possible that the South Korean tech company puts back the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and rethinks its design. There were talks that Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will come with flexible screen display that could contribute to the device's thinness. Making a thinner device, Samsung may intend to battle Apple's alleged iPhone Air.

On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is rumored to arrive in September at the IFA 2014 event, which has been the usual release date window of the series. According to the Korean media source The Korea Times, the handset will be released alongside a myriad of Samsung devices such as a new series of curved OLED TVs, next generation of Samsung Galaxy Gear, and another Samsung wearable dubbed as Gear Glass. Latest rumors on the grapevine claimed that premium Samsung Galaxy F, also known as Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime, will be released side-by-side with Galaxy Note 4.

Meanwhile, the fourth generation of Samsung's phablet was rumored to pack a 5.7 inch screen panel. The report added that Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will be offered in two variants: one with the standard AMOLED display with flat screen, and the other model will also sport the same AMOLED screen but with a curved display.

Other rumored features of the alleged phablet include: Snapdragon 805 SoC with four Krait 450 cores clocked at 2.7 GHz and Adreno 420 GPU, 3 GB of RAM, fingerprint sensor and an upgraded S Pen stylus. At the back, the smartphone will also pack a 16 MP ISOCELL back camera. The smartphone was speculated to come with Android 4.4.3 or Android 4.5/5.0 out of the box.
