This year's parade will feature the usual floral floats, marching bands, and equestrian units as they march down the five and a half mile route along Colorado Boulevard.

The floats are covered with thousands of flowers, leaves, seeds or bark. According to the Tournament of Roses website, each float is decorated with more flowers than an average florist will use in five years.

Grandstand tickets are available for purchase until Dec. 31, 2015.

Spectators are expected to line up along the streets for curbside viewing a day before the parade.

The Grand Marshal for the 2016 Tournament of Roses will be Ken Burns, who has directed and produced documentaries about the history of the United States. Burns, 62, has won two Grammy Awards, 14 Emmy Awards and two Oscar nominations.

"Ken Burns is a legendary figure and a great fit for this year's Rose Parade theme, 'Find Your Adventure,'" said Mike Matthiessen, Tournament of Roses President. "We're so honored to have someone like Ken, who has devoted his life to telling the story of America, lead the Rose Parade – America's New Year Celebration® – that provides hope and joy to millions of people around the world."

Burns stated: "The Rose Parade is an annual tradition woven into the fabric of America, so it's such an honor to be chosen as the Grand Marshal. I've never been to the Parade in person, so this will be a new adventure for me. I'm looking forward to sharing the experience with my family and all the fans of the Rose Parade who will be watching on New Year's Day."

The 2016 Rose Parade will start at 8 a.m. PT (11 a.m. ET) and will offer a tribute to a world of dreams. The 102nd Rose Bowl Game will take place at 1:30 p.m. PT / 4:30 p.m. ET on New Year's Day, and will see the Iowa Hawkeyes play the Stanford Cardinal in the annual game.
