The year 2015 was a wildly successful year for the folks behind the smash hit "Rocket League," and the game's developers are set on making 2016 an even better one.

In a post published on the official PlayStation blog, Psyonix Vice President of Marketing Jeremy Dunham talked about some of the things that they have in store for "Rocket League" in 2016.

According to Dunham, players can look forward to more gameplay modes and arenas added to the game next year. Dunham also hinted at more downloadable content (DLC) coming to "Rocket League," although he ultimately stayed away from providing any specific details.

Dunham did note that they already intend to make several announcement over the coming months, so that may mean that "Rocket League" players can look forward to new in-game content right from the first month of 2016.

Aside from providing some general hints about what fans can expect from "Rocket League" for next year, Dunham also took the time to thank the many fans for helping the game become one of the surprise hits of 2015.

He also noted that "Rocket League" was also up to about nine million players, which is quite impressive considering that figure stood at around eight million just a few weeks ago, GameSpot reported.

The spike in players speaks to the popularity of "Rocket League" and the game could very well have more than 10 million fans by the first quarter of next year at its current pace.

Psyonix can also expect more players to start filing into "Rocket League" beginning February 2016 when the game makes its long awaited debut on Xbox One, according to Express UK.

Upon arriving to Xbox One, "Rocket League" is also expected to feature some new cars based on some of the console's most beloved franchises, with those being "Halo" and "Gears of War."

The year 2016 could end up being another big year for "Rocket League."
