'Resident Evil: Revelations 3' news, updates: Developer Capcom reveals interest to continue series

Resident Evil: Revelations 2, the current game in the series Capcom

The "Resident Evil: Revelations" games have become quite popular with gamers given that the two games have brought the series back to its survival-horror roots while "Resident Evil 5" and "Resident Evil 6" have headed into the action genre. According to Capcom's own, there is still interest in pursuing more "Revelations" games.

"I would also love to be able to continue Revelations as a spinoff series," explained producer Michiteru Okabe in a recently released "Resident 20th Anniversary" retrospective video. "I think the best thing about it is being able to bring back less used characters. And it also lets us explore stories in between the events of the main games."

Okabe also explained that the goal would be to keep "Revelations" in the horror genre, even when the main games in the series explore other styles of gameplay. Many fans of the franchise have complained about the way the main games have shifted into action, almost completely ditching the horror elements that made the series famous.

Director Yasuhiro Anpo also stated in the video that the "Revelations" series allowed them to be more experimental. The first game in the spin-off series was released for the Nintendo 3DS, a system that many believed could not handle a full-pledged 3D "Resident Evil" game, and the games thus far have explored with traditional narrative styles and an episodic format.

However, as stated in a report from The Bitbag, Capcom has not yet officially announced "Resident Evil: Revelations 3" but the increasing interest from the developers and the solid fanbase from the players may lead to a third game coming out very soon. It is undetermined if this third title would again release for the 3DS or for home consoles.

The report also states that "Resident Evil 7" is already expected to be unveiled at this year's E3 and it is possible that the company will announce a new "Revelations" game to satiate the demands until the main game can be released.
