The second season of "Reign" began airing this October with its premiere episode, "The Plague," but according to IB Times, only over 1 million viewers watched the debut.

Due to its poor performance, there are speculations that the CW series may be cancelled in the coming months. Nonetheless, the second episode, entitled "Drawn and Quartered," is expected to boost ratings as Francis has returned to the castle with Lola and their child.

The second season has already placed emphasis on Mary (Adelaide Kane) and Francis (Toby Regbo) sitting on the throne as their nation suffers.

With France experiencing the horrid effects of the plague, thousands have already lost their lives while Mary and Francis go through painful troubles in staying committed to the people they have promised to serve and to each other as well.

In the previous episode, Francis had the difficulty of not being able to send Lola away with their son, hence his decision to go back to the castle with them. Mary's relationship with Francis may also become more strained due to her inability to conceive a child.

With Francis away, Mary had risen and had begun to lead her subjects during the plague. The Queen was last seen bringing assurance to her people and demanding her guards to punish what is wrong. Lord Edward, for instance, was asked to join a group of infected people for the reason that he poisoned his enemy's family.

In episode two, fans of the series can look forward to Lord Edwards's father Narcisse (Craig Parker) coming into the castle to avenge the death of his son. The name of Nostradamus will come up and be blamed for Edward's passing.

In a teaser released by CW, Francis will have Nostradamus questioned by the guards and be faced with a deadly punishment. However, Mary may put a stop to such incident and save Nostradamus' life.

Bash (Torrance Coombs) will become the official deputy of King Francis in the second episode.  In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Coombs mentioned about how the second season will follow the story of Francis learning how to be a proper king.
